The Book of Divine Proof

Chapter 38
The belongings of Prophet Muhammad (p)

376. 2. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (p): In our possession are the weapons of the Prophet Muhammad (p), no one can dispute it. The weapons are safely guarded. If they fell into the hands of evil persons, they would become the best among them. This matter of the armament and weapons will reach the one (Imam al-Asr (p)) against whom the people will rebel. When he reappears with the Will of God, the people will say, ‘What has happened!’ And God will make him a power of protection, over the heads of his subjects.
Translator’s note: At the time of the reappearance of Imam al-Mahdi (the last of the Imams who is in occultation, May God hasten his reappearance), people will be taken by surprise since they will not have thought of conditions that indicated that he (p) would come, but God will then enhance their awareness to the degree where they will realize what is happening.

377. 9. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (p) said that when Prophet Muhammad (p) was about to die he called al-Abbas Ibn Abd al-Muttalib and Imam Ali (p), and said to al-Abbas: O Uncle! Will you inherit the Prophet Muhammad (p) and pay back what he has borrowed and fulfill his pledges?
Abbas: O Prophet Muhammad (p), I am an old man with many dependants and little wealth.
The Prophet (p): I shall give it to him who will take it according to its real worth. O Ali! O Brother of Muhammad! Will you fulfill the pledges of Prophet Muhammad (p) and repay what he has borrowed and take his bequest?
Imam Ali (p): Yes, it will be on me and for me.
Prophet Muhammad (p) looked at Imam Ali (p) until he took his ring off his finger and asked Imam Ali (p) to wear it during his life.
Imam Ali (p): I looked at the ring after I had put it on my finger and accepted it with all my heart from my entire legacy.
Then the Prophet Muhammad (p) called Bilal: O Bilal! Bring me the helmet, the Dhir, the standard, the shirt, Dhulfiqar, turban, shoulder-cloth, black and white waistband and cane, the two mules – ash-Shahba and ad-Duldul, and the two she-camels – al-Adba and al-Qaswa, and the two horses – al-Janah and Hayzum, and the donkey – Ufayr. Take these during my life…
