737. 6. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (p): A free person remains a free person in all circumstances. If he is in trouble, he remains patient and if misfortunes surround him, he is not discouraged. If he is over powered or imprisoned or if he becomes poor after being affluent, even then he is not disappointed. Prophet Joseph (Yusuf) (p) was made a slave but in spirit he remained a free person. He was overpowered and imprisoned but he remained steadfast on his status. The depth and darkness of the well could not harm him. God had mercy on him and He made him the master of the rebellious and the tyrants, who made him a slave. God elevated him as a prophet. The outcome of patience is pleasure, therefore be patient. Make patience and steadfastness a must for yourselves and God will reward you accordingly.(B5,C47,T6)

739. 8. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (p): When a believer is buried in the grave, his prayers remain on his right side and Zakat (prescribed alms) remains on his left. His virtues take him in their shelter and his patience remains in a corner. When the angels Munkir and Nakeer come and start questioning the buried one, patience says to the prayers and Zakat, etc., to move aside if they cannot save him from hell as it is sufficient to save him.(B5,C47,T8)

740. 11. Imam Ali (p): Patience is of two kinds, patience during the times of troubles and misfortunes, and the other one is superior to it, which is patience on what God has forbidden you from …(B5,C47,T11)

741. 13. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (p): When my father was on his death bed, he embraced me and said, “I advise you what my father had advised me, and he was advised by his father, to be patient in all religious matters however bitter and hard they may be.”(B5,C47,T13)

742. 14. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (p): Patience is of two kinds. Patience in trouble and misfortune which is good and laudable, but to remain patient regarding things which have been forbidden is better and superior.(B5,C47,T14)

743. 18. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (p): God bestowed a community with His bounties but they did not thank God. They were subjected to catastrophes and chastisement. Another community was subjected to troubles and distress but they remained patient. God rewarded them with His bounties.(B5,C47,T18)

744. 22. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (p): Patience with courage and steadfastness during times of adversity, distresses and poverty is far superior to generosity with people.(B5,C47,T22)

745. 23. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (p): …Patience is something which people do not complain or protest about their troubles.(B5,C47,T23)

746. 24. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (p): One who does not remain steadfast during trials and tribulations, the world will make him helpless.(B5,C47,T24)

747. 25. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (p): We (the Imams (p)) are patient but our Shias are more patient than us.
